Through spoken word and song, Lee and Betsy Paulet weave a colorful tapestry
of their native land and its history. Using tales of Florida's heroes
and villains, its wars and its warriors and its fragile beauty, FLORIDA SONGSTORY paints vivid word pictures
of yesterday and today, nostalgically reminding all who listen of the importance of wisely monitoring "progress"
in paradise. Florida Crackers with bloodlines going back generations, they feel the importance of keeping
the history and culture of Florida alive in these times of irresponsible developers who disregard the land they destroy
in a thoughtless process of homogenizing all and everything they touch into miles of urban sprawl.
FLORIDA SONGSTORY is fascinating tales of native
characters such as Bone Mizel - a hard-drinking Florida cowman who talked his way out of and into all
trouble, legends like Ghost of Cecil McKay - a freed slave who bought a small orange grove in Central Florida to
the disdain of local folks - starting a chain of events that goes on to this day! They offer hope in Butterflies about Tom Emil, a University of Florida scientist-professor who saved an entire species.
They sing of Gator and Jumper, Seminole chiefs
who evaded Andrew Jackson -- even though it meant the death of Gator's baby. They paint vivid word pictures
with Florida State of Mind, becry the destruction
of developers in Cracker Pride -- what they laughingly describe as CRAP (cracker rap) and they offer hilarious
insights into their own Cracker-style Mars vs. Venus relationship in A Woman Stands Behind A Man to Show Him Where To
Go and I Told You So.
